Installing .NET SDK & Setting Up Visual Studio or VS Code
🔹 1️⃣ Install .NET SDK
What is .NET SDK?
The .NET SDK (Software Development Kit) includes everything you need to build and run .NET applications, including:
- ✅ .NET CLI (Command Line Interface)
- ✅ Runtime and Libraries
- ✅ Build Tools and Compiler
🛠Step 1: Download & Install .NET SDK
- 1️⃣ Go to the official .NET download page: https://dotnet.microsoft.com/download
- 2️⃣ Select the latest version of .NET SDK (e.g., .NET 8.0).
- 3️⃣ Choose your OS:
- Windows: Download the
.exe
installer. - Mac: Download the
.pkg
file. - Linux: Follow the terminal commands provided on the website.

- 4️⃣ Run the installer and follow the setup instructions.
🛠Step 2: Verify Installation
After installation, open a terminal or command prompt and run:
dotnet --version
✅ If installed correctly, you will see the version number (e.g., 8.0.2
).

🛠Step 1: Download & Install Visual Studio

- 2️⃣ Select the edition:
- ✅ Community Edition (Free for individuals and small teams)
- 🔹 Professional/Enterprise (Paid, for larger teams)
- 3️⃣ Run the installer and select “.NET Desktop Development” and “ASP.NET and Web Development” workloads.
- 4️⃣ Click "Install" and wait for the process to complete.
🔹 Option 2: Visual Studio Code (VS Code)
Why Use VS Code?
- ✅ Lightweight, fast, and extensible.
- ✅ Ideal for small projects, microservices, and cross-platform development.
🛠Step 1: Download & Install VS Code
- 1️⃣ Go to the official website: https://code.visualstudio.com/download
- 2️⃣ Download and install for Windows, macOS, or Linux.
🛠Step 2: Install C# Extension
- 1️⃣ Open VS Code.
- 2️⃣ Go to Extensions (Ctrl+Shift+X).
- 3️⃣ Search for "C# for Visual Studio Code" (by Microsoft).
- 4️⃣ Click Install.
🔹 3️⃣ Create and Run Your First .NET App
🛠Step 1: Create a New .NET Console App
Open Command Prompt/Terminal and run:
dotnet new console -o MyFirstApp
cd MyFirstApp
🛠Step 2: Open Project in VS Code or Visual Studio
🔹 For VS Code:
code .
🔹 For Visual Studio:
- Open Visual Studio → Click "Open a project or solution" → Select the
MyFirstApp
folder.
🛠Step 3: Run the Application
dotnet run
✅ You should see "Hello, World!" printed in the terminal.
